MEAA was registered on May 18 1992 as the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance, formed from the merger of three organisations: the Australian Journalists Association, Actors Equity of Australia, and the Australian Theatrical & Amusement Employees Association. The history of these unions goes back to the early days of the twentieth century, and the current structure of MEAA reflects those origins.. The Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance is the Australian trade union and professional organisation which covers the media, entertainment, sports and arts industries.
